Kia ora. Hello. Thanks for popping by.

I've posted a couple of audio tracks as a way to introduce myself. Written bios are impossible things! And if you're curious to know more, there's a page on this site with a full-length CV detailing publications, exhibitions, collaborations, awards - that kind of stuff. I love it when meeting leads to an exchange of ideas, some form of collaborative expression or shared creative exploration. If you'd like to get in touch, please do - I will welcome hearing from you.

In a nutshell: I'm a South African-born artist, writer and interdisciplinary researcher living and working in Ōtepoti Dunedin, a buzzy Unesco City of Literature situated on the lower South East coast of New Zealand's South Island. I am also a mother (one daughter, two sons) and grandmother (one grand-girl, two grand-boys). When I'm not writing or making art, I enjoy singing, gardening, walking, reading, listening to music and podcasts, cooking and gathering with friends.

Home is a 1920s cottage in
Whaka Oho Rahi Broad Bay, a harbourside settlement on the Otago Peninsula. My workshop and art studio are in the garden on the same property. A breathtakingly beautiful part of the world, our dark night skies sometimes flare with the lights of the Aurora Australis; the world's only mainland-based population of Royal Albatrosses is an eight-minute drive away...

Welcome. I'm glad you have come.
Claire
